recap: launch / pop up 1

On Sunday, August 18 we had the pleasure of hosting pop up #1 at TOMORROW BOOKSTORE. Why a bookstore? Why a pop up shop? Will we have more? Why can’t I just shop online? All of these questions — and more — were asked over the past few weeks and we’d love to answer some of those questions for you.

WHY POP UP SHOPS?

Commercial real estate is a huge commitment! While we love the products that we carry and creating in-person shopping experiences, pop up shops allow us to do this with much lower overhead. Not only that but we are so lucky to know incredible shops & shopkeepers (shoutout Julia & Jake at TOMORROW BOOKSTORE!) that we can create mutually beneficial relationships with.

WHY CAN’T I JUST SHOP ONLINE?

Writing, drawing, drafting, journaling… these are all very tactile tasks. We want you to touch and test what you’re buying and be totally confident in its utility and quality. Also, running an e-commerce brand isn’t for us. We want to meet and know yuo.

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT PRODUCTS TO CARRY?

In the world of office supplies and stationery, there limitless options! Local, domestic, international, fair trade, WBE, MBE, etc. To us, the design, function, and quality of the product is paramount. Point blank: we use products we’ve tested and meet our standards. Everyone has preferences and we do what we can to carry products that you’ve requested that meet our standard. And to be frank, we’re still figuring how the perfect product mix for each of our stores and want to remain flexibile.

We’re so grateful that the downtown community has an inclusive, community-centered bookstore with such lovely, knowledgeable staff that’s open and willing to support other businesses and organizations.
